Education Funding Agency raising hot works fire risk awareness

30.11.2016

The Education Funding Agency (EFA) have recently published the ‘Fire risk during school maintenance or building works’ document to highlight potential fires risks caused by using hot works during school building maintenance.

The EFA stateAny construction activity involving hot works has the potential to cause a serious fire. Any outbreak of fire threatens the safety of those on site including school occupants and those in adjacent properties. Serious fires can lead to a loss of school provision and the need to find safe and suitable alternative accommodation.’

The document has been published to raise awareness of a school and contractors legal duty. This comes under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. This applies to the fire risks created by the hot work activities of contractors.
