Long-lasting refurbishment of commercial and industrial roof gutters and outlets

Water ingress from failing gutters and drainage outlets is a common cause of damage to commercial and industrial buildings. Over time, weathering, thermal movement, and ponding can cause joints to fail and materials to degrade. Refurbishment using Triflex PMMA-based liquid waterproofing systems offers a proven, long-term solution that restores performance without the need for full replacement.

Why choose Triflex for gutter and outlet refurbishment?

1. Outstanding hydrolysis resistance

Triflex PMMA based systems are engineered to withstand long-term exposure to standing water. Their inherent hydrolysis resistance (meaning they do not break down in water) makes them ideal for gutters and outlets that by their nature are exposed to volumes of water, protecting against degradation over time.

2. Rapid curing - even in low temperatures

Triflex PMMA-based resins cure quickly, and are rainproof in just 30 minutes, even in winter conditions. This allows projects to proceed nearly all year round with minimal disruption, as well as facilitating phased installations where access is limited.

3. Compatible with most substrates

Whether applied over metal, concrete, bitumen, or single plys, Triflex systems are compatible with thousands of substrates. Fully bonded, the liquid systems form a continuous and homogonous waterproofing membrane making them perfect for gutter refurbishment, avoiding costly replacement.

4. Durable and long-lasting

Triflex waterproofing systems are UV-resistant, chemically robust and resistant to mechanical stress. They provide exceptional performance in the demanding environments typically found on commercial and industrial roofs. BBA certified with a life expectancy of some 25 years, Triflex ProDetail provides peace of mind for decades to come.

5. Cold-applied, seamless application

Triflex liquid systems are cold-applied, eliminating the need for hot works and reducing on-site risk. Easy to apply by roller or brush, the reinforced membrane delivers strength and versatility easily accommodating complex forms, upstands, penetrations and outlets.

6. No compromise to flow rates

Unlike many gutter lining solutions, the use of Triflex liquid systems means there is no need  for recalculation of flow rates. Triflex cold liquid systems follow the forms of the existing gutters, achieving high performance waterproofing without the concerns of compromising your drainage efficiency.

Common gutter and drainage outlet types

Understanding the roof drainage system is key to specifying the correct refurbishment approach. Triflex systems can be used to refurbish all major gutter and outlet types. With high compatibility to many substrates, no matter what the composition of the existing gutters, Triflex ProDetail has proven adhesion and durability.

Common gutter composition types:

  • Metal
  • Aluminium
  • Felt
  • Coatings
  • Membrane lined
  • Single-ply

Gutter refurbishment made easy

Triflex ProDetail system can be used whatever the type of gutter or outlet. Gutter joints are easily sealed too and form a homogeneous waterproofing solution that accommodates multiple components of your gutter systems.

Gutter types:

  • Box gutters - Box gutters are commonly used on large, flat or low-slope roofs, typically located between roof slopes or against parapet walls. They are designed to handle high volumes of water and are usually fabricated from metal or other robust materials. Due to their enclosed form, they must be carefully maintained to prevent blockages.
  • Valley gutters - Valley gutters are situated where two roof slopes meet, forming a trough that channels rainwater to the outlets. They are particularly prevalent in pitched industrial roofing systems. Valley gutters often experience high water flow and require reliable waterproofing to avoid leaks at junctions and seams.
  • Eaves gutters (external) - Eaves gutters run along the roof edge, collecting water that drains off sloped roofing systems. These can be half-round, deep-flow, or trapezoidal in profile, depending on the roof design and rainfall capacity requirements.
  • Parapet and boundary wall gutters - These are integrated within the roof edge or against vertical upstands and require bespoke detailing to accommodate thermal movement and ensure long-term watertightness.

Gutter joints

No matter what the form, the Triflex liquid systems quickly and easily waterproof these often more complex details. Bolted and lapped joints are easily accommodated, forming a continuous resilient waterproofing.

Drainage outlets:

  • Gravity outlets - These allow rainwater to flow away from the roof via downpipes under gravity. They are typically installed in internal drainage systems and require accurate detailing to prevent ponding and water ingress.
  • Siphonic outlets - Siphonic drainage systems are designed to accelerate the flow of water through a vacuum effect, enabling the use of smaller-diameter pipework with fewer downpipes. These are commonly used on large industrial roofs where rapid water removal is critical.
  • Overflow outlets - Also known as emergency drainage, overflow outlets provide a secondary escape for water in case the primary drainage becomes blocked. They are an essential part of the overall drainage design to mitigate flood risk.

Delivering long-term performance

Triflex refurbishment systems provide a robust, adaptable solution for extending the life of roof gutters and outlets. With minimal disruption, fast application and proven resistance to water and weather, they are the ideal choice for commercial and industrial environments.
