ETAG 005

European Technical Approval Guideline 005 Liquid Applied Roof Waterproofing Kits certified no. 03/0020

First system in Europe to achieve ETAG 005 certification (jointly with Triflex ProDetail).

Highest classification in all test criteria:

  • Working life: W3 (25 year durability)
  • Climatic zones: M and S (Moderate to Severe)
  • Imposed loads: P1 to P4 (Low to Special)
  • Roof slope: S1 to S4 (<5% to >30%)
  • Minimum surface temperature: TL4 (down to -30°C)
  • Maximum surface temperature: TH4 (up to +90°C)
  • Resistance to wind loads >50 kPa
  • Statement on dangerous substances - none contained
  • External fire performance class BROOF(t1), BROOF(t2), BROOF(t3) and BROOF(t4)
  • Reaction to fire Euroclass

ETA certification under ETAG 005 includes crack bridging tests under TR008 ‘Determination of the resistance to fatigue movement’ which tests cyclic crack bridging ability from 0mm to 2mm at -10°C. To achieve the W3 (25 year durability) statement under the ETA, the Triflex ProTect system has successfully undergone this testing for 1,000 cycles.

Dynamic Crack bridging ability under EN 1504-2 is determined using EN 1062-7:2004 Paints and varnishes. Coating materials and coating systems for exterior masonry and concrete. Determination of crack bridging properties. Achievement of B 4.2 (-20°C) crack bridging ability is based on:

  • Application to a concrete substrate with a formed crack inducer / weak point. The concrete is then broken to simulate a crack occurring post installation (from nothing);
  • The crack is opened from 0.2mm to 0.5mm over a period of 6.66 seconds, and over the next 10 seconds the crack is rapidly cycled from 0.5mm to 0.55mm to 0.45mm to 0.55mm for 10 cycles finishing at 0.5mm. The crack is then closed from 0.5mm to 0.2mm over a period of 6.66 seconds and over the next 10 seconds the crack is rapidly cycled from 0.2mm to 0.25mm to 0.15mm to 0.25mm for 10 cycles finishing at 0.2mm;
  • The complete cycle takes 33.32 seconds which for the 1,000 full cycles takes 9.25 hours in total per test. The total number of crack cycles is 21,000: 1,000 larger movements to simulate building movement from 0.2mm to 0.5mm, and 20,000 smaller movements to simulate loads (10,000 between 0.45mm and 0.55mm and 10,000 between 0.15mm and 0.25mm). Once the testing is complete the waterproofing is evaluated using a coloured water column for 24 hours.
